WALLSEND
Local History Society
The
society was founded in 1973 to bring together all those
interested in the history of Wallsend and surrounding area,
and to preserve our heritage through lectures, slide shows,
tours to places of historic importance and other projects
and activities.
Meetings
are held in the Wallsend Memorial Hall, 39 Station Rd on
the 2nd Monday of each month (except July) at 7pm. Talks
commence at 7.30pm.
Our
members are also active in tracing their family trees
and would welcome contact from anyone throughout the world
who has family links with Wallsend.
The
society's archive of local historic photographs and
memorabilia is available to be consulted by members.
Publications
include: 'A Eulogy to the Stead Family' by John Stephenson
and 'The Wallsend Pit Disaster 1835' by Ken and Pauline
Hutchinson.
